Chlorine Dioxide

Am toying with the idea of disinfecting with Chlorine Dioxide. My understanding is that it will not deal with fats in the pool in the way that free chlorine does. Will a sand filter pull them out anyway? Could the problem be limited to a mark on the egde or could it be worse? :?
