Why Does Blond Hair go Green??
Swimming Pools are made up of a complex cocktail of chemicals to keep the water safe for swimming in!
It is NOT CHLORINE that turns hair green, it is residual copper in the water. Copper is introduced, either as copper sulphate, or as part of the 3 or 4 action chlorine tablets. It can also be introduced through an piece of equipment called an ioniser.
Copper is needed in the pool water to prevent algea growth. Without the copper, algea would grow eventually regardless of chlorine being present.
Hair will normally only turn green, if the swimmer has been in the pool for an extended period of time.
The easiest solution to remove the green is to wash the hair using tomato ketchup, the natural acids in the ketchup remove the staining.
Green hair is not normally a fault of pool chemistry, unless the copper levels are very high.
