Swimming Pool Sanitisation

Sanitization is the technical name for the treatment of swimming pool water to make it germ, bacteria and virus free and safe for swimming in.

If water is not treated to disinfect it, eye, ear and nose infections may result and in extreme cases, stomach upsets and contraction of disease.

Water is sanitized or disinfected by the addition of a chemical agent. In a swimming pool, this is normally chlorine, but the same can be acheived with bromine or chlorine free alternative chemicals.

Sanitization can also be acheived through the use of salt, UV, Ionisation or Ozone

The pool care guide, elaborates more on the levels of chemicals that should be in the water, as a reference, Chlorine should be between 1.2ppm and 2.5ppm. pH levels should be maintained around 7.2 to 7.4.
